When the Konami screen appears, quickly press (Up then Down) 5 times, Left twice then Right 4 times. If its worked you'll hear a sound effect. Then, on the title screen hold A and press Start and a level select will appear. Oddly, on the Europe version this code produces the sound effect but not the level select. On the US version there is no sound effect and no level select.
