Add friends based on their distance (clouds), and not by trying to get as many as possible. Their profile icon appear as clouds and this has a distance rating based on a number with "1" being the shortest and "5" the longest. Friend players having "5" cloud ratings. Also consider what routes that you are not able to travel so you can use your friends with them.
