Watch the stress meters of each character. You can get a Game Over if a character is too depressed so engage in actions that boost their spirits.

Sometimes you need to switch between Tyler and Carla to proceed. So do that.

You should play the tutorial. Not just because it is helpful, but because you get to see a little digital David Cage and that is always a treat.
