This trick requires at least one SrchEye. If you have ran into an SP version of a FM-ian and did not get the desired card (the EX or SP version of the FM-ian's card) you can use one SrchEye after the battle. You should encounter that same FM-ian again. If you save the game after using this item you can reload your saved game file with the item still in effect; thus you can repeat this trick as many times as necessary until you have obtained the desired card.
