The texture of the terrain you go over will immediately tell you how to traverse it. You'll see a tyre track on uphill sections for example, indicating you should pedal. Downhill sections should have a smooth texture, allowing you to hold and gain speed all the way down. Meanwhile the jumps are fairly obviously posted, and sections of the track with rough terrain, such as rocks, should be pedalled through all the way.
