Your shield has no effect on dogs and "kamikaze" monsters when attacked from close range. Kill them quickly with your rifle. A light will indicate when enemies are about to appear. Tap the light to shoot at them as soon as they appear.

Keep in constant motion at the fastest possible speed. Swipe to move between cover locations. Practice attacking enemies and swapping weapons while running. Reverse directions when you are going to be mobbed by approaching enemies, or when a red warning area appears that indicates an incoming missile.
