I recommend that whenever possible, have an additional weapon and shield close by. Whether that is by getting it from the store or by beating enemies, constantly have an additional one on hand. After your existing weapon and shield will break, you will be endangered which's sufficient factor to get an additional set. The existing shield and weapon you have can break after taking a couple of excellent hits, so pay very close attention-- once your shield or weapon turn red, you can use them once or more times, prior to they get damaged totally. That's why it is great to have an additional set of them on hand, since they will save you from an uncomfortable circumstance where you might pass away.
