Collide with boxes to push them into position to form a barricade at chokepoints. This will allow you additional time and grant more cover when fighting.
Classes
The Assault class balances offense and defense. One of their skills gives them a boost in the speed at which they can fire, more, and reload. They also can use a knife to melee. The Medic class is defensive and supportive. Most of their skills are used in support of teammates, such an ability to drop med packs. They also receive armor buffs and have revive reduction skills. The Heavy class is offensive and is focused on damage and strength. Their first skill increases their damage as long as they are in one location; and they have increased defense skills.
Equipment augmentation
Some equipment feature augment slots. They are used to add special bonuses to that piece of equipment. Armor can be improved with general defense protection, or heat or toxic resistance. Weapons can be boosted with offensive bonuses, such as increased damage.

SAS skills
Each class has general SAS skills that can be used. They offer basic boosts to stats such as health, defense, attack power, movement speed, etc. Choose skills that work well with your class specific skills.
