These advantages can be unlocked ether in the extras menu, time attack or playable characters.

Extra	How to unlock
D.A. Garden	Clear time attack mode with a combined total of 25 minutes. Or complete the game with all time stones.
Play as tails	Beat the game once.
Sound test	Clear special zone time attack with a combined total of 4 minutes or under.
Special stage time attack	Beat every level (including bosses) in normal time attack mode.
Stage select	Clear special zone time attack with a combined total of 5 minutes or under.
Visual mode	Clear time attack mode with a combined total of 25 minutes or under.

Let Sonic stand still unattended for most of three minutes and he'll say "I'm outta here!" before jumping off the screen, at which point your game ends.

You must beat special stage time attacks in under 4 minutes to unlock the Sound Test.

Hold down on the D-pad and press the 'Jump' button so Sonic spins on the spot. When you release the D-pad Sonic will move forward in a speed determined by how long the D-pad was held and perform his Super Spin Attack which is handy when you need to gain a lot of momentum in a tight spot.

Complete the following achievements to earn their respective point scores.

88 Miles Per Hour (25 points)	Travel through time.
All Stages Clear! (100 points)	Finish the game.
Dr. Eggman Got Served (100 points)	Destroy Dr. Eggman's final machine.
Heavy Metal (100 points)	Defeat Metal Sonic without getting hurt.
Just In Time! (100 points)	Complete the Time Attack mode in under 25 minutes.
Just One Hug Is Enough (25 points)	Get a hug from Amy.
King of the Rings (50 points)	Collect 200 Rings.
Paradise Found (25 points)	Complete a Zone in the Good Future.
Saviour of the Planet (100 points)	Destroy all the robot transporters and Metal Sonic holograms in the past.
Statue Saviour (50 points)	Find the angel statue in Wacky Workbench.
Take the High Road (50 points)	Pass the upper Signpost in Collision Chaos Zone 2.
Treasure Hunter (100 points)	Collect all the Time Stones.
