When you unlock a new avatar, you cannot place them on your team unless all of your nine weapons are unique. If needed farm weapon medals by fighting matches in previous levels and use them to get new weapons from the card store. Friend invites are done through referral codes. Rewards are given when someone uses your code, or you use someone else's code. Having friends who are actively playing the game allows you to earn weapon medals faster.
