At the Game Over screen, hold the Down Button while pressing A and Start simultaneously. This will prevent the decrease in the Continues counter.
Invulnerability and Level Skip
During gameplay, press Up on Controller 2 and Up and A on Controller 1, then B on Controller 1. You can then press A and Select to enable invulnerability, or B and Select to skip the level.
