To trigger this ending, in a New Game+, examine the shining dot on the right pod of Lucca's device at the square immediately after you get Marle in the start of the game to fight Lavos. Only Chrono and Marle can be used. Alternately, defeat Lavos the first time you encounter him in the Ocean Palace, preventing the death of Crono.
