First, complete the game with the Dog ending. Start a new game, then set the button config to type two in the options menu. The button combination needs to be input during normal play, immediately after exiting the inventory menu (i.e. while the screen is fading to black after exiting). While holding the Start button, hold L2, Square and L3 in that order. While holding these buttons down, tapping L3 will toggle different views on the mini map. Tapping L3 enough times will eventually switch the mini map off.
