Gain most of the points required to upgrade a skill. Pass a checkpoint that has enemies located just afterwards. Defeat the enemies to gain enough experience to get a skill upgrade. Accept the upgrade then intentionally die before going through another checkpoint. You will return to the previous checkpoint with your upgrade points restored, but with the purchased skill upgrade still applied. Repeat the process as many times as desired.
