Borneo and Erik

Borneo and Erik become available to move into the houses you build in the Georama area in chapter five.

Enable the Debug Mode Camera in Dungeons

When you're in a normal map - i.e. a Georama - use R2 to go into first-person mode, then go to any dungeon floor by entering the menu and using Move. In the dungeon, immediately go to the menu and equip the fishing rod and exit the menu. Just like that you have glitched the camera to be much like the debug mode camera, in that you can go at any angle desired; pausing and unpausing will change the camera distance. Unequipping the rod will rectify this state.

Fish Cloning

This can be done once you have an aquarium and any desired fish to clone. Once you have the fish to clone, assure it is in the first slot of your inventory outside of the aquarium. Pick it up with Square, then repeatedly use Select to sort your items menu until the aquarium is in that first slot. Then press Circle and Square in that order - you'll still be holding the fish, but a clone of it will also be in the aquarium! This can be used to clone fish to cook for healing, to sell for money (though the Lure glitch is faster), and to just making breeding a bit easier. You can also more easily win Fishing Contests as you only need to catch a big fish and clone it twice as opposed to catching three separate big fish.

Fish stats

The following stat explanations are useful when you are trying to win the Finny Festival or Fish Races.

UnlockableHow to unlock

Julia Glitch: Chapter 5 Boss

During the first part of the Chapter 5 boss battle at the end of Mt. Gundor, while the boss runs at you and while Julia is one of your support characters, have Julia confuse the boss. The boss will glitch, and be stuck running in place, and will remain stuck until you use an attack that knocks him back. A noteworthy example of an attack lacking this knockback are the Machine Gun Arms on the Ridepod; using such attacks, you can quickly eliminate the boss's health without any risk to yourself.

Julia Glitch: Duplicating Self-Sacrificing Enemy Rewards *new*

When Julia is a support character, defeat an enemy that normally is capable of killing itself - such as the Bomber Heads in Mt. Gundor that can explode to hurt you. Once defeated, before it disappears, activate Julia's ability. From here, you can do this twice more (provided Julia has enough energy), though you have to let the enemy in question kill itself since from this point onward you cannot directly deal damage to the monster. Each time the monster dies, it will drop money and perhaps items, allowing you to duplicate the rewards you earn.

Misc. Unlockables

These unlock extra features and locations in the game.

UnlockableHow to Unlock

One time scoops

Many times, mostly in a Boss battle, you will have a chance to get a scoop. The following list will show one time scoops, how to get them, and where they are.

Underground Channel: Brave little Linda - Time of scoop: Fighting mini boss, Circus darling Linda. This one can be easy. Lock on to the behemoth, sneak around to its back side, and provoke it with one punch from the Ridepod. Quickly switch back to Max and stay behind it for an extra second. Then, back up and it will jump up and stomp down. Just before it lands, snap it.

Underground Channel: Clown Robo's attack - Time of scoop: Fighting Boss, Tricky entertainer Halloween. This is slightly more difficult than the last one. You must take a picture when a missile launches out of his right eye. First, stay as far away from Halloween as you can. If he jumps your way, run as far away as you can from the space he is about to land on. He cannot launch bombs to the other side of the arena, and will have to shoot a missile. This is when you get the picture. If he launches flotsam balloons instead, defeat them and try again.

Rainbow Butterfly Wood: King Mardan - Time of scoop: Meeting the holy one, known as King Mardan. This is an easy one. When you fish him out of the swamps, as soon as he stops talking to you, snap. :Rainbow Butterfly Wood: Rainbow Butterfly united

Rainbow Butterfly Wood: King Mardan - Time of scoop: Fighting the boss, legendary creature Rainbow Butterfly. You will most likely take damage obtaining this scoop. Unless you do not have bread, do not worry about it. First, take the path you would normally use to defeat the butterfly by smashing the flower petals to make them separate. When there are seven butterflies in the arena, hit one with a wrench that is any color except for red. Suddenly, all the butterflies will attack you so fast that it is almost impossible to dodge or guard. They will all head back into the flower to reform the Rainbow Butterfly. Less than a second before the glint disappears, take a picture.

Starlight Canyon: Phantom Memo-Eater - Time of scoop: Fighting mini boss, devourer of memories Memo-Eater. This is fairly easy. As soon as the fight starts, the Memo-Eater will be directly in front of you. Take the picture.

Starlight Canyon: Flying Battleship - Time of scoop: Fighting boss, Dark Assassin Gaspard. This one is fairly easy to get. You will start out as Monica and cannot get the scoop immediately. If you have a powerful weapon like a Dusack or Choora, it is best to bring Gaspard down to a tiny, yet visible proportion of his health bar. Then, wait for you to go back to Max. If you do not, and defeat Gaspard before you change, you will have one more chance to get it later in the game (look below). When you are in control of Max, quickly locate the ship Monica is fighting on and snap the scoop.

Ocean's Roar Cave: Puppet Shingala - Time of scoop: Fighting mini-Boss, Dragon of the sea Shingala. This is an easy one. As soon as the battle starts, take out your camera. Snap whatever is in front of you.

Ocean's Roar Cave: Doctor Jaming - Time of scoop: Fighting Boss, Tragic figure Dr. Jaming. First, get in the middle so that the Shigura cannot hit you. Look above their heads and find the marionette. When you can see Dr. Jaming on the marionette, and not just the bottom, take your picture.

Mount Gundor: Fire Squall - Time of scoop: Disabling the Fire Squall This is easy. Just get to the Fire Squall and before it burns, take a picture of it.

Mount Gundor: Flying Battleship - Time of scoop: Fighting mini-Boss, flying battleship Death Ark. If you did not get the scoop in Starlight Canyon, this is your last chance. Go behind a rock, and when it is not attacking, go out and get a new scoop.

Mount Gundor: The Ulitimate Gaspard - Time of scoop: Fighting Boss, flame demon Ultimate Gaspard. This one is difficult, due to it being airborne and shooting fireballs. It cannot shoot fireballs while it is on the ground. Attack with your Ridepod's Nova Cannon and it will go to the ground. From a good distance, take a picture of the idling beast.

Moonflower Palace: Griffon's Real Face - Time of scoop: Fighting Boss, Emperor Griffon (first time). This one can be easy. As soon as the battle starts, equip the camera and take a picture of Emperor Griffon's more fuzzy side. He should attack until about three seconds into the battle.

Dream Spiral: Legend Of The Moon - Time of scoop: Fighting the final Boss, Dark Element. This is a floating robe with a jellybean head that sounds like a georama piece. Although you will want to smash his "jellybean", you need to get the most important scoop in the game first, The Legend Of The Moon. Equip an Anti Petrify and Anti Stop Amulet as your second and third spaces, and your camera as the first. As soon as the battle begins, take a picture of the giant moon, above you.

Zelmite Mine: Flotsam Revived - Time of scoop: Fighting mini Boss, imortal clown metal Flotsam. This is probably the most important scoop in the game, as you need this pictue to make the Nova Cannon 4 and Samurai Arm 4 (the two most powerful Ridepod weapons). This metallic menace is fast. When he approaches you, be ready. Try to corner him before you take the picture.

Zelmite Mine: Zelmite Found - Time of scoop: Fighting the second final boss, Dark Genie. You will have to take a picture of the Zelmite you found first. As soon as the battle starts, look around the room for the Zelmite and take a picture of it. This is one of the few scoops that cannot make an invention, but this late in the game and you will not need one.

Zelmte Mine: Mr.Bigshot's Shadow - Time of scoop: Fighting the second final boss, Dark Genie. You must take a picture of his face. He only has one other attack other than releasing his minions and does not use it at the very start of the battle. Take advantage of this after you get the scoop above this one.

Recruit Donny

Donny is in the underground channel entrance. He collects coins and is waiting for two specific coins to finish off his collection. If you give him a Dark Coin and an Indestructible Coin, he joins your party. To get these coins, you will need to have the Tailoring shop appear in the future in Sindain. They are 1500 Gilda a piece.

Recruit Ferdinand

Ferdinand is Maximillian's chef which means he is Max's house. To get him, you will need to give him a Roasted Chestnut. You can find Roasted Chestnuts in the Rainbow Butterfly Wood.

Recruit Gordon

Gordon lives in Palm Brinks in Maximillian's front yard. To get him to become an ally, you must give him Holy Water to help a tree.

Super Easy Money

To get real easy money, buy the lure rod. Then buy two of any lure. Equip one lure to the lure rod after you equip the lure rod. Go to the lure rod status screen. Now keep adding the same lure over and over again. You can get up to 998 lures on the rod before it will reset back to one. Be careful: If you equip the lure when you can see what lure is on the rod, it will automatically reset.

Various Unlockables

These unlock the option to recruit various characters throughout the game. These do not work fully until after the game tells you about Recruiting.

UnlockableHow to unlock

View 3D Item Models

Normally, viewing the 3D item model for items (bar special cases like equipment) is limited to the game's debug menu. However, if you have a Lure Rod and are willing to discard it, you can bypass this restriction. When in the item menu, pull up the stats for the Lure Rod, and then discard the Lure Rod: its stats will still be displayed onscreen however. Pick up an item and carry it to the spot where the Lure Rod was. While hovering over that slot, press Square twice, then Circle; you will have done this correctly if the Lure Rod's name is replaced by the item's name. Then equip any weapon or article of clothing and you will see the item's model. Do note that this only works one time and to do it again you'll need to procure another Lure Rod. Note that trying to display outfits crashes the PS2 version, and often does so for the PS4 port as well albeit with varying effects.
