Using the Bowser/Mushroom SFX tool, you can change a stage's background music. If you beat a stage in the Super Mario World theme while the Bonus Stage ("Mushroom") alternate background music is playing, you'll get the "Bonus Stage Clear" music instead of the usual theme.

If you don't have a character's Amiibo but want to unlock that character's costume, don't worry, you don't have to buy the Amiibo. Just play the 100 Mario Challenge to unlock them. Every time you complete the 100 Mario Challenge, you are awarded a random Amiibo costume; However, you can't spam easy and normal difficulties, as you can only play easy difficulty 20 times and normal difficulty 45 times before being forced to play expert to unlock the remaining costumes.

There is a fairly quick way to bypass the 9-day waiting period to unlock everything. Start by using the pieces you have. Make sure to select each piece at least once. When a notification a for more pieces arrives, select an easily replicated item, such as the coin, and fill the board with them. If done right, the new pieces will arrive after a minute or two. Repeat until done. Takes about an hour.

In edit mode, click either stick. A box will appear in the middle of the screen. Click the left stick for a right hand and vice versa. Repeated clicks will cycle through available hands.

After the game's title appears on a demo stage background, tap the indicated area of the screen to get the corresponding effect.

If you clear the final level in 10 Mario Challenge or 100 Mario Challenge, you'll meet up with Toad or the Princess. If you are dressed in certain costumes, you'll get individualized responses. Toad stresses out if you rescue him as Bowser, but Peach is merely bemused. Wear the Toad costume while rescuing Toad and you'll be greeted as "Captain."

While the game is loading a level, hold down on the D-Pad and press A and B at the same time. If done correctly, the game will look as if played on a CRT TV screen. To disable it, do the same thing on the level loading screen.

To unlock expert mode in 100 Mario Challenge, simply beat Normal mode.

Make sure you've updated Super Mario Maker, then play Hard Mode of Gnat Attack. Upon completing all three levels you'll unlock the Fighter Fly Mystery Mushroom costume.

During level creation, a group of three flies may begin flying around. Tap each of them on the Gamepad to start the Fly Swatter mini-game.

As of the 1.2 update, if you shake a muncher enough times, and after you keep doing it after the flies show up, Yaniga (the giant fly) will appear. Tap him to play a harder version of Gnat Attack. Beating this mode will unlock the Fighter Fly costume for the Mystery Mushroom.

When you remove a block or shake a muncher enemy and three little mosquito fly out, quickly tap on them to kill them. When you did it correct the Mario Paint Fly squatting game will launch. It won't happen with every block you move so it needs some trial and error. Completing this minigame unlocks the Builder Mario costume.

Stars you receive from stages that you submit online accumulate. Once you have gathered enough, you will receive a medal in your "Play Info" and you will be granted the ability to submit more stages online. Stars do not disappear from your profile if you delete a stage that has received one or more previously.

When you place a door in edit mode and tap on it with the stylus you'll hear some on knock back a number of times. Tap back matching the number of knocks and after 4-5 rounds a character will open the door.

To unlock the four Nintendo World Championships levels, complete the 10 Mario Challenge mode 7 times. Complete all four to unlock the Luigi Mushroom item, which can be used in Course Maker by grabbing and shaking a Super Mushroom. It can only be used in Super Mario Bros. levels.

As of version 1.40, Super Expert mode in 100 Mario Challenge can be unlocked by beating Expert mode.

In the interactive title screen (the one where Mario stands in some level you can play if you want) you can touch the letters of the Super Mario Maker caption on the gamepad touchscreen. Every letter does do something different like spawning enemies or coins or taking off like a rocket after someone gives a countdown.
