Completing the conditions for certain medals will unlock characters. These characters can be used in survival modes and have different stats, however these differences do not carry over if they are used in story mode.

Character	How to unlock
Boogie	Buy everything in survival mode.
Bubbles	Survive 15 consecutive waves.
Cesar	Kill an enemy with a sink.
Chop Chop	Perform 60 pistol counter kills.
Classic Shank	Kill a goon by throwing a bomber.
Defender	Perform 100 turret kills.
Falcone	Complete campaign on hard.
Hobo	Complete all waves of a survival map.
Horror	Reach the zombie wave in each survival map.
Junior	Perform 50 fire trap kills.
Kats	Execute 100 grenade kills.
Rex	Complete campaign on normal.
Rin	Perform 20 bat counter kills.
Sunshine	Purchase an item in survival mode.

On the character select screen of Survival Mode, move your cursor in the following order: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right. A character box should immediately appear on the bottom left corner of the select screen.

Complete the following achievements to unlock Microsoft Gamerscore points.

Batter Up	Execute 150 kills with the baseball bat.	5
Combo King	Do 10 combos of 20 hits or more.	15
Ditch Digger	Kill 100 enemies using the shovel.	5
Freedom Fighter	Rescue 50 Civilians From The Militia.	5
Gimmick Free	Kill a Survival Boss with no traps or grenades.	10
No Bargains	Buy nothing for 10 straight waves of Survival.	10
Not So Fast	Do 30 counters in one Survival match.	5
Pistol Heimlich	Perform 60 Pistol Counter Kills.	15
Shank SMASH	Kill 50 enemies with the heavy object smash.	5
Shopaholic	Buy everything in Survival Mode.	5
Surf's Up	Stay alive for 15 consecutive Survival waves.	10
That Is Gonna Leave A Mark	Perform 100 Machete Counter Kills.	15
The First Dozen	Kill 12 enemies.	5
The Story Ends	Complete Campaign Mode on Normal difficulty.	15
Too Easy	Complete Campaign Mode on Hard difficulty.	15
Trigger Happy	Get 30 firetrap kills in one Survival match.	15
Ultimate Survivalist	Defeat all the waves in any Survival map.	20
Up Close and Personal	Beat a Campaign level with no ranged attacks.	10
Zombie Killer	Reach the zombie wave in each Survival map.	10
