You can unlock additional difficulty settings (and prayers at the temple, to correspond to each new setting) by satisfying the corresponding requirements, as indicated below.

Hard - Complete the game once on Normal.
Infernal - Complete the game on Hard.

Clearing the game once on Normal will also unlock the Colosseum and Labyrinth of Chaos.

When you need to locate the talismans, you can make things easier for yourself by paying attention on the dungeon selection screen, which you can reach from the stables. If you're missing a talisman in the area in question, the talisman will light up on that screen to let you know that you can find one in the area in question.

Even when you're short on cash, you should always consider stopping by the temple for a short prayer before you leave on a mission. Even the least expensive prayers will offer significant boosts to the gear you soon acquire, or income, or experience points, or life points. It's especially worth keeping that in mind as you reach the second half of the game, where money is tighter and you'll need to pay for horse rentals.
